Join me in supporting a great cause. Lets support good in the world by raising money for Achieve Tahoe.
I am a novice at Fundraising and am doing something that is scary for me, by reaching out to others to ask for assistance. This is an incredible Organization that speaks to me and is my call to action.
My son Lucas recently got to experience all the wonderful things that Achieve Tahoe has to offer in February of this year. Growing up on skis myself, I thought skiing would never be an activity my son and family would be able to participate in or enjoy.
A few Bay Area friends had told me about Achieve Tahoe over the past few years. With Lucas' delay in walking, meeting milestones, significant gross motor delays and sensory difficulties it was hard to imagine putting him in ski boots, let alone on skis.
After a recent invitation to Tahoe from a dear friend, and Lucas being 8 years old, it seemed like the time was right.
I could not have been more delighted and excited about this experience for my son. It was heart warming and inspiring to see such a comfortable, supportive and fun skiing environment for children with disabilities. Our trip left me filled with hope and joy for what is possible and what can be.
Lucas said he and his instructors all agreed on one thing...that he should come back and ski:)
Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snow sport lessons, water skiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.
