Join me in supporting real change. Let’s support good in the world and make a difference. Help us for Achieve Tahoe

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Achieve Tahoe.

Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

I learned about Achieve Tahoe the winter of 2019, the year Bruce and I moved to Tahoe. I was skiing at Alpine and saw a mono skier (sit ski) being guided and tethered by skiers wearing Achieve Tahoe jackets. As soon as I got down the hill googled Achieve Tahoe and found out their headquarters is at Alpine Meadows. I picked up a volunteer application that day and have been volunteering with Achieve ever since. The Achieve Tahoe staff and volunteers, using adaptive techniques and equipment, bring the gift of skiing to people who might otherwise never experience the exhilaration of sliding down a snowy hill. Even during this pandemic year, Achieve has provided hundreds of safely taught lessons. Smiles, giggles, and joyful eyes can penetrate even an N95 mask. I realize that the past year has been tough on everyone, and I hesitate to ask for donations at this time. However, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know of the magic that happens at Achieve Tahoe, and if this year isn't a good year to donate, maybe next year. Or, maybe you'll want to volunteer! I'd be happy to talk with you about it anytime.

One last story...

Last week at Alpine I recognized the father of a student I had last year. After our masked greeting, he said to me, "I don't know if you realize this, but you people are angels. The first time my daughter said "Dad" was after a day of skiing with Achieve. She loves skiing so much. And I hope you realize not only what this program means to the child, but the parents and family as well."

After hearing that, I could see his eyes had welled up, and of course mine had too. Achieve Tahoe makes a profound and positive impact on peoples lives, I know that for sure.

Thank you, and hope to see you up in Tahoe this winter!

Cheers,

Kerry
