Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability.

Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

2022 marks my third year volunteering as a snow sports instructor. Even with the first season being cut short due to COVID and my second season being cut a little short due to some injuries, I am really excited to volunteer again this winter and work with some of the most talented, inclusive and unselfish professionals/volunteers at Achieve.

Here are some pictures from last season, enjoy!

Okay, so as we all know, Mothers have super powers.... This participants' mom had never been on skis but wanted to join with our lesson. She rented some skis, and after a couple pointers, she skied with us like she had been skiing for years. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. But, then again, Moms have super powers.

Achieve Tahoe Instructors helping a young participant learn about pressure and rotational control while having some fun playing "tag" between two instructors. Priorities for a lesson are safety, fun and progression.

Working with a blind skier and the participants siblings joined for a really fun morning. It was 55 degrees by the end of the lesson, gotta love California skiing.

Example of the equipment used to help people with conditions like a stroke recovery where the participant needs a "walker" with skis to maintain balance and build strength.

Achieve has about ~180 Volunteer Instructors and this is a classic chair lift moment
