From 7 years old to 18 years old, I battled with a brain tumor. It wasn't until 2013 that I underwent a critical brain surgery that ended up saving my life. Due to the location of the tumor, when they removed the tumor, they took parts of my hippocampus and damaged some of the surrounding nerves. As a result, I now have permanent long term and short term loss, a speech impediment, and vision loss in the upper right corner of my eye. Navigating through the world with disabilities has been humbling, challenging, frustrating, and eye-opening. For the past year, I've had the privilege of working as the guest services coordinator, and this summer, I became a program coordinator for the equestrian program - a new program that we just started this summer! And this winter, I finally got out on the snow assisting on snowsport lessons!

Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

"Forrest has had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Achieve Tahoe programs in Lake Tahoe: archery, horseback riding, paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, tubing and snow skiing! The instructors and volunteers at Achieve Tahoe demonstrate the utmost respect, patience and understanding with their clients. Forrest always feels supported and comfortable learning from and interacting with the staff at Achieve Tahoe and he returns home feeling so proud of his accomplishments!
