Meet Liz. Liz is a skier, a hard core skier. Maybe a racer in her youth. I spent much of my day last Sunday helping Liz rip down the slopes with another volunteer. My partner Karen was primarily responsible for safety. My job was ensuring it was fun and figuring out how to say YES. Many of Achieve Tahoe's participants live in a world where no is the answer way too often. So when liz wanted me to time her laps down the hill my answer was Yes! And laps we did, from nine AM to three PM.
Technology in adaptive snow sports is changing rapidly. Much of the money we raise here helps Achieve keep pace with this change so we can serve as many, and as broadly as possible. Know that your donation here here directly helps get folks like Liz out on the snow for a day of fun and likely provides a few hours of rest for the folks who support them.
Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence, and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 600 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports, and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they never thought they could before.
