We can Provide thousands of adaptive lessons to over 800 people with disabilities

For the past three years I have had the extraordinary opportunity to volunteer with the Achieve Tahoe team. Together we support children and adults with disabilities to get outside and create their own stories. I get to spend about fifteen days a year both on the snow and in the boat helping these incredible folks build confidence, work on a life-long skill, and get outside where our team can say yes in a world where, unfortunately, no is far too common an answer.

Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 800 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

Whether the participants want to go fast, ski steeper terrain, or safely have fun with their family behind the boat, the joy we are able to deliver is, at times, a bit overwhelming. These are some of the best days of my year and I'm grateful to be able to be a small part of a great team.
