Keerat and Kabir's Story:
Keerat and Kabir moved to Tahoe in 2021 from the Bay Area, and learned about Achieve Tahoe through a group for parents of kids with special needs.
“We didn’t have many options for special needs activities in Bay Area and there was always some issue with appointments,” says their dad, Arun. “We wanted to add variety to kid’s physical activities and skiing was on top of our mind… In our struggles, we asked for help on social groups related to special needs and one of members there mentioned Achieve Tahoe. At that time, the suggestion was only for skiing (and to our surprise we learned that there was so much more that our kids could benefit from at Achieve Tahoe). We later enrolled our kids in other programs like rock climbing, equestrian etc. and they loved every program!”
Keerat and Kabir loved Achieve Tahoe so much, it was one of the reasons their family decided to move to Tahoe.
“Special needs kids are work 🙂 Yes, all kids are, but special needs families know what I mean. With kids whose minds are running at 200 miles an hour every second, finding avenues to harness all that energy is hard. Also, finding avenues which make them believe they can, vs discouraging them with a dreadful you-aren’t-good-enough is super challenging. Further if you are lucky to find avenues there are factors related to costs, logistics and variety of activities. These were things on our mind when we moved to Tahoe. Achieve Tahoe has helped on all of above, giving our some headspace to enjoy Tahoe 🙂 The confidence and can-do attitude they gained from Achieve Tahoe sessions, made our own experiences of enjoying Tahoe with them much more easier and memorable.” - Arun
For Keerat, he has liked how the instructors accommodate him, teaching while focusing on fun.
“I like the instructors as they are not strict and a lot of fun,” says Keerat. “Now I am able to ski black [diamond] slopes."
For Kabir, Achieve Tahoe has allowed him to conquer his fears and reach new heights.
“I’m proud of being able to go to higher heights in rock climbing,” Kabir says. “Achieve Tahoe made me less scared of higher heights."
Finding Achieve Tahoe has allowed both Keerat and Kabir the ability to participate in sports, and gain health, confidence, and independence.
“Achieve Tahoe has been God send for our family,” Arun says. “The kids look forward to their lessons with Achieve Tahoe as the instructors are friendly, caring and understanding. Kabir and Keerat love all the instructors and see them as their friends. When I take my kids for Achieve Tahoe lessons, I’m not sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to get a call that my kids have been kicked out. I can take a break and read a book, knowing my kids are safe and having fun.”
Kabir’s advice to anyone thinking of trying Achieve Tahoe?
“Achieve Tahoe is good at making you accomplish things that you may be scared of and you will have a lot of fun.”
