Join me in supporting Achieve Tahoe
Join me in making outdoor recreation accessible and inclusive to all!
I joined Achieve Tahoe as a winter intern in 2019, and over the past six years I have gone on to be a seasonal instructor and program coordinator. Throughout my time here, I have always been struck by the perseverance of our participants, the dedication of our volunteers, and the sheer joy everyone involved experiences while on our lessons. I've seen first-hand how this program changes lives, focusing on ability over disability, and empowering everyone involved to prioritize inclusivity in all areas of their lives. Please help me continue our efforts and make the outdoors accessible to all!
Some of my favorite Achieve Tahoe memories
- Teaching a participant who's parents thought he could never stand-up ski to independently slide while standing, holding up his own weight and balance while sliding
- Learning how to tether a bi-ski without fixed outriggers so the participant could find maximum independence in controlling the tilt of the ski (thanks Amanda for your patience as I figured this out!)
- Writing and leading training for all of our volunteers, and seeing their enthusiasm to become the best adaptive instructors
- Watching the 49ers NFC championship game with two of our regular bi-skiers who are also huge 49ers fans, and celebrating together when they won
These are just some of the amazing moments I've had with this organization, and with your help, I can't wait to make more!
Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports, and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.
