Hi! I’m Ben.
Join me in supporting Achieve Tahoe to make skiing and outdoor recreation more accessible for all.
3 fun facts about me
- I’m a lifelong skier and occasional snowboarder.
- The mountains are my happy place.
- I live with disabilities that are invisible to most people
Okay, and a 4th. This is my first season as a volunteer ski instructor with Achieve Tahoe!
See, it all started when I had a crazy idea to ski 100+ days this season, mostly in Tahoe, while working remotely part-time. Skiing is my favorite thing, my passion - the phrase “Living the dream” has come up a few times. I wanted to find a way to give back and share my passion with others. Enter, Achieve Tahoe.
I came across their program last season when I noticed instructor duos accompanying athletes with adaptive ski devices on the mountain. Fast forward to now, and I’m volunteering as an instructor a few times a week.
Words can’t describe how rewarding this experience has already been, even after just a few lessons. I’m excited to continue learning more about how we can remove physical, intellectual, and financial barriers to help more people access the joys of snowsports.
In the meantime, adaptive equipment (like bi-skis, sliders, tetra-skis, outriggers, etc), is EXPENSIVE. More equipment means more lessons Achieve Tahoe can accommodate at a time - and more smiles I get to see on the mountain. Everybody wins.
