Achieve Tahoe provides year-round outdoor recreation activities for people with disabilities

I’m reaching out to share a cause that’s close to my heart—Achieve Tahoe, a nonprofit that empowers children and adults with disabilities through adaptive recreation. The organization provides over 800 people a year with one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports, and more, helping them build health, confidence, and independence.

This is my fourth year volunteering at Achieve Tahoe, and every year I’m more inspired by the participants’ resilience and joy. I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible individuals who push past their limits, and it’s been amazing to witness their pride and sense of accomplishment. In my profile picture, I am skiing with a partially blind participant, Brigid. Over the years I have had the privilege to ski with Brigid many times. She amazes me every time she skis as I admire how she navigates difficult terrain with limited eyesight. Her smile after each run is priceless, and it’s experiences like these that keep me coming back year after year.

It’s not just the participants who benefit—it’s also the parents, who often watch in awe as their children do things they once thought impossible. Every day I spend with Achieve Tahoe leaves me feeling more energized and motivated to make a difference.

The Ability Challenge is an event that raises funds to support this life-changing work. My goal is to raise $2,000 to help further the mission of building health, confidence, and independence through adaptive outdoor recreation. I would be so grateful for any contribution, big or small, to help me reach my goal.
