My Story with Achieve Tahoe
I started working for Achieve Tahoe as an intern during the 2014-2015 winter season. That winter opened my eyes to the world of adaptive sports and the great joy that comes with giving people with physical or cognitive disabilities the chance to ski down the slopes! This year is my fourth winter working for Achieve Tahoe. I am now a Program Coordinator and am lucky enough to call this my full-time, year-round job. I help with all parts of the organization- from program delivery to fundraising, and luckily also still get to teach 1:1 lessons out on the mountain. With that being said, I see firsthand how all donations are put to use. Our lessons are offered at a significantly reduced rate from private or group lessons and we offer scholarships to those in need. In addition, we host a 5-day winter sports camp for disabled veterans each year at no cost to them!
I can't express enough how wonderful this organization is at providing opportunities that many people didn't even realize were possible. I have teared up on lessons too many times to count at the sight of one of my students accomplishing something they thought was impossible.
I could go on and on about all my students, but I encourage anyone who is in the Tahoe area to come check it out firsthand! Come by our program center at Alpine Meadows and on any given day you can find me either at my desk or out on the hill with a student, always with a huge smile on my face because I have the best job in the world.
