Just finished the military winter sports camp and it was once again the highlight of my ski season. Fifty years ago. WWII vets taught Vietnam Vets how to ski with their wounds. Now we pass on that knowledge to people with a wide range of disabilities. I have been skiing for more than fifty years and "Skiing has been very good to me.
Over the years of volunteering, my rewards have been man hugs from burly Marines, smiles and laughter from younger children. The ultimate satisfaction is to see each of our students experience the same type of thrill anybody gets from skiing or riding down a hill, a moment of exhilaration and freedom. For the caregivers; a brief respite or a sense of elation that their loved one experienced a moment of exhilaration.
