Doug's Story with Achieve Tahoe

By now most of you know that learning to ski on one leg changed my life after losing my leg in Vietnam. You know, too, that the experience was so meaningful that creating a successful and pioneering non-profit and spreading it across the nation became my life's work. Participation in challenging, vigorous sports has proven to be a powerful catalyst in the development of a positive self-image and an achieving attitude. These attributes are essential to success for anyone and they are critical for someone with a disability.

Fifty years since it's founding by 10th Mountain Division Veterans, I'm proud that Achieve Tahoe (formerly Disabled Sports USA Far West) continues as a lead agency to provide sports as part of the rehabilitation and community reintegration of wounded warriors disabled in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have created winter and summer sports camps nationwide. I am asking you to support our military camps in Lake Tahoe through our annual campaign, The Ability Challenge.

In the picture above I am teaching a soldier who lost his leg in Afghanistan. The video celebrates our 50 years. I am grateful for your support of my life's work over the years.

Please join me in supporting the Ability Challenge again this year.
