My Story

My father is my athletic mentor. He coached my little league team (we were undefeated :D), drove me to high school wrestling tournaments before sunrise, and talked me into multi-day bike rides across Iowa and Massachusetts. When he suffered an incomplete, high-level spinal cord injury in 2014, he found adaptive skiing.

In 2017, I joined him at a ski clinic for disabled veterans in Colorado and knew I wanted to get involved. When I returned to California, I found Achieve Tahoe. Achieve Tahoe has become a huge part of my life- I have connected with students of all ages as well as their parents, children, siblings, and spouses. And yes, dad comes out and skis with us too (see video below).

This year, I am pursuing certification as a Level 1 Adaptive Ski Instructor, with a focus on sit ski instruction. Achieve Tahoe is providing the training and experience I need to reach this goal, provide a higher level of instruction to my students, and earn a credential that will allow me to participate in programs around the world.

Every family who comes to Achieve Tahoe has its own story, but we come together to discover what is possible when we suspend our doubts. For a precious couple of hours, we ignore what we commonly mistake as limitations. We see confidence manifest itself before our eyes. We witness what it means to Achieve.

About Achieve Tahoe

Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability.

Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

Join me in supporting this cause and provide life-changing experiences for children and adults with disabilities!
