After many years of being in a
wheelchair, walker and crutches due to a spinal cord injury, I never thought I
would be able to do any sort of physical activity again. For 7 years I
have remained housebound with limited physical activity. Last year I went
to Achieve Tahoe for a ski lesson. I expected them to tell me that I
wasn't a good candidate and I should go back home but instead they gave me
assistive tools which provided extra balance and support and made it possible
for me to be back on skis again. After numerous lessons and adaptive
camps I finally am able to ski most of the mountain without assistance.
Achieve Tahoe gave me a new outlook on life. They showed me it was possible for
almost anyone with a disability to be active.
This year, I been blessed to be asked to volunteer at Achieve Tahoe and
teach ski lessons to other adaptive people. It's a wonderful feeling to
be able to give back a small bit of what this organization has given to me.
Achieve Tahoe and the other adaptive programs made it possible for me to
obtain private ski lessons and attend camps because their reduced rates which
they offer to all of their participants. If it weren't for the heavily
discounted rates and scholarships, I would still be at home. Over 60% of
my income each month goes to medical bills thus making little room for
expensive activities. This fundraising website is Achieve Tahoe's main
fundraiser for the year. Please help them reach their fundraising goals so
that others with disabilities can be given the opportunities that I have been
given.

anyone with any disability.
Achieve Tahoe
participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve
Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to
try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers
showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could
before.
