It's that time of year again! As many of you know, Achieve Tahoe was a big reason why I came back to Reno this winter (even without a travel job)! It's a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive sports to individuals with disabilities, so in the winter time that means skiing and snowboarding!

I joined Achieve Tahoe as an assistant instructor last year, and this year, I've become lead instructor!

One of my favorite lessons this season was when I had a full day lesson with a kiddo with down syndrome. She was a nervous/fearful skier, frequently asked for help, and also a bundle of energy and laughter. At the end of the day, her entire family joined us for her last run; she skied down an entire beginner run on her own, keeping everyone laughing the entire time! Her family was beyond thrilled to see her skiing independently, and they were showering her with praise. She independently got up if she fell, stopped when she felt she was skiing too fast, and started learning to make turns! What a huge difference from the start of our lesson!

Skiing is such an empowering sport! It teaches you to overcome fear, persevere through difficult runs, learn new skills, all while enjoying the great outdoors :) Unfortunately, skiing isn't a sport available to everyone. Clothing, gear, and lift tickets are expensive. And families with individuals with disabilities have more expenses than a typical family.

Please join me in supporting Achieve Tahoe and helping to make this sport more accessible and inclusive! This fundraiser helps make lessons affordable for individuals with disabilities and their families!
