It's that time of year again! I can't believe it's year 3 of teaching with Achieve Tahoe! We are a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive sports to individuals with disabilities year round, so during winter that means skiing and snowboarding!

I joined Achieve Tahoe as an assistant instructor two years ago, last season I became a lead instructor, and this season I'm now a paid part-time instructor! Who knew this adaptive ski thing would stick around :P

Skiing is such an empowering sport! I can't tell you how much I love sharing this sport with others, especially those with disabilities who are so often told what they can't do. Racing down the hill provides such an incredible sense of freedom, but skiing also teaches you how to manage/persevere through fear, overcome challenges, and culminates in incredible feelings of accomplishment each time you've mastered a new skill.

Unfortunately, skiing is a sport with a high financial barrier to entry. Clothing, gear, lift tickets, and lessons are expensive. And families with individuals with disabilities have more expenses than a typical family.
