Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before. This is certainly true for us!
Our son Jeremy had always loved being outdoors, but beginning in his teens his increased anxiety and fear of all things crowded and noisy made it extremely challenging to participate in meaningful social and recreational activities. In the summer of 2018 we discovered Achieve Tahoe and their Summer Sports recreation day at Donner Lake. With their patient encouragement they coaxed him into the water for a day he would never forget. Since then he's found his confidence on water skies, jet skis and snow skis and looks forward to each and every trip.
I hope you'll join me in supporting the wonderful work Achieve Tahoe does. Because of the life-changing experiences they provide, my son and everyone they work with can focus on their abilities on and off the mountain.
