Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

This is my first Winter Season volunteering as a snow sports instructor at Achieve Tahoe - Alpine Meadows. It is a life-altering program and experience.

Achieve Tahoe is a 501(c)3 non-profit that relies on individual donations to keep our programs going and to continue to reach more people with disability so that we can engage them in activities that promote health, confidence and success in their lives.

In 1967, Jim Winthers, a World War II Veteran of the 10th Mountain Division and Director of the Soda Springs Ski School, brought together a group of Vietnam Veterans to support each other as they learned to cope with their disabilities. These Veterans taught themselves and others how to ski. From there, our organization was born. Achieve Tahoe has continued its rehabilitation orientation and remains dedicated to the belief that sports are a vital part of the process in which individuals with disabilities gain self-confidence, mobility, and greater independence. Our programs promote education, socialization and employment. We encourage the whole family to participate in many of our programs and activities. This can strengthen family bonds while ending the isolation of individuals with disabilities by uniting families through recreational activities.

To keep our programs affordable, our participants pay just 20% of the actual cost of the lessons. The remaining 80% comes from people like you!

Join me in supporting this cause and provide life-changing experiences for children and adults with disabilities!
