$30 towards $250

On July 30, 2009, I was born with a multitude of disabilities that I live with daily. Some of those are being deaf, non verbal, Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (a seizure disorder), congenital heart defect, autonomic immune dysfunction, and a loss of 13 Chromosomes (which is incredibly rare in ones life). It is a miracle that I have survived my 10 years, since the doctors were sure I wouldn't live past 1 month. I have died over a number of 5000 times and yet the good Lord keeps me here on this earth to help support and help teach people unconditional love. I have learned with the village that helps my family overcome some of those disabilities and fully enjoy my life.. My mother fight daily for me to be able to have a normal life (or what most call a normal life). She has helped me learn to communicate with American Sign Language and my sister has been able to take that in college so she can also communicate with me. My family has been supportive and tries their best to help me do as much as I can to stay active. Being active is something I'm very good at, balance was never my down fall. I have been able just this past month to take skiing lessons with Achieve Tahoe and I'm loving it very much. I want to be able to spread the word about it to all my friends and family. I'm fundraising because this is something that has helped me and I'm only one out of millions of people with a disability, and they are helping children and Adults learn to snow ski and they offer summer programs too, I can't wait to attend. Thank you for supporting this incredible program.

Achieve Tahoe is a nonprofit that builds health, confidence and independence through recreational sports for children and adults with disabilities. The organization serves over 500 people a year through one-on-one snowsports lessons, waterskiing, paddle sports and more. Achieve Tahoe's highly trained instructors and specialized, adaptive equipment allow the organization to serve just about anyone with any disability. Achieve Tahoe participants and family members often say that their experience with Achieve Tahoe goes on to affect other areas of their life such as gaining confidence to try other sports, becoming more social, and breaking down perceived barriers showing them that they can do things they perhaps never thought they could before.

"We were introduced to Achieve Tahoe by our friend, Mike, five years ago when our daughter, Tate, was 10. Tate has Down syndrome and has skied with your program every season since....We feel so fortunate to have benefited from your fantastic organization. Last week Tate skied with her brothers, Dad and I for the first time without an instructor. While we were on the chairlift she exclaimed, 'I love this...it makes me feel so alive!' Needless to say I had tears running down my cheeks as I took a video of her skiing down [a blue ski run]. Tate loves skiing, has a true sense of pride in her ability and can now independently enjoy what I'm certain will be a lifelong sport. I can say with confidence that I don't think this would have been possible without Achieve Tahoe. Your organization, staff and volunteers have made a real difference in our lives." -Sarah W. 2019
